New Year Resolution
I am not really one to do the New Year's resolutions and make big lists of things to never accomplish. Some people are motivated by those kinds of lists but I haven't really gotten into it.
I have also not found a Bible reading plan that I really like. I tried a couple of them years ago: got behind, buried and then choked out and gave up. There's the read in 4 places every day kind and the read 3 chapters a day except Sunday when you have to be more spiritual and read 5 chapters kind. I even had the One Year Bible that lays it all out for you, which was nice to have so organized, but still had you reading in 4 places. After disliking various plans for various reasons, I'm starting to think that I have to get out a lot of scrap paper, a calculator, and start counting verse tallies and doing the math to make my own plan and make sure it all evens out in the end.
The other day, Justin Taylor had a blog post about Bible reading plans and I figured I could browse them and see if there were any I hadn't considered. There were a few new ones I hadn't seen and this One Year Chronological Reading Plan is the one that comes closest to what I think is a good plan. There is less jumping between books, but it is still chronological, which I like. It interweaves the Psalms with the historical writings. I am little less excited about the Gospels, since it organizes them synoptically. I'll have to see what I think if I make it that far. One of the best things about it is there are 6 readings a week. You have a catch up day every week, but not too many catch up days in a row to get used to the idea of skipping.
Anyway, just throwing out a few thoughts about reading more Scripture in the coming year. If anyone wants to do it with me, I can email you a more printer-friendly version of the plan I made. Apparently Google Docs doesn't do multiple columns in a text document? Not cool, Google.
